The Plan - the kitchen

First, a summary of what we are going to do.   You can probably tell from the background paper on this wall that my style is not exactly contemporary.

Here is our kitchen now.

We are going to :  take up linoleum and install new tile, paint all oak cabinets white, apply a new moulding to the top and install a new cabinet to the empty portion of the kitchen.  We are ordering the custom cabinet oak primed and we will paint to match our cupboards.

This is not a total DIY project.  Someone who knows what they are doing will be working with the tile install and new cabinet install.  However - the cabinets are my project.

I have to add, I am excited about the new cabinet.  Right now :

Our new cabinet will have room for our broom, garbages, microwave (all hidden!) and include a little spot for a stool and laptop.

Here we go

When we bought our house 6 years ago it needed a lot of work.  So we ripped up carpets, laid hardwood floors, laminate floors and ceramics.  We painted. Restained cupboards.  It was a big job but we managed to spruce up or redo the better part of the house.  However - the main bath and kitchen seemed too overwhelming a job to begin at the time.  Six years later, it's time.

I am documenting this project for a reason.  I don't think I would have been able to do this project without the internet.  Let me reprhase that - I don't think I would have been able to do this project without blogs.   As I researched and got ideas of what I liked, I found the most helpful resource out there on the world wide web to be blogs.  More helpful that DIY websites, forums or  anything else were the blogs from DIYers that would document their processes and produce lovely before and after pictures.  I was able to take it all in, figure out what I liked and what I didn't and make a plan.

Because I appreciated the bloggers, I decided to document my projects so that people like me could be have more info when they prepare their projects.  Of course, it will also be nice that be able to look back and reflect on the hard work of this project.
